The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded in 1909 in New York City by a diverse group of citizens committed to helping to right social injustice. Its roots spread to Collier County in 1975 and it has been my honor to serve at its helm since January, 2006 with a team of executives who possess technical and high ethical standards. These dedicated volunteers envisioned a progressive master plan and set a new course for our local Branch. Our strategies have re-invigorated the Branch and enabled it to accept today's challenges; it has made major positive inroads for social justice. Our Branch is most proud of setting into motion a County-wide Human Relations Commission, implementing a Youth Works program, creating economic development opportunities for minority contractors and implementing City and County law enforcement reform. Our "YES KIDS" program, Project REACH (Reaching Educational Achievement by Completing High School has expanded to four schools. These major accomplishments were possible because of past loyal volunteers, faithful supporters and dedicated executive committee members. Special recognition and thanks are given to our Branch's accomplishments because of exemplary volunteer activism. With your continued support, our vision to extend our tentacles throughout Collier County will be manifested. We face significant challenges in the future, yet it will be our responsibility to turn disappointment into decisive deeds, anger into action, and make our organization more effective as we make sure our voices are heard, Empowering Positive Change. All persons who share our values are welcome and needed because the struggle continues. Join the NAACP, the guardians for social justice. |
